We’re pleased to present this 1970 Volkswagen Type 2 Bay Window Dormobile camper van in Turquoise.
This vehicle holds a familiar presence at Absolute VW, as its previous owner is one of our dedicated loyal customers. Since 2014, we have been entrusted with the servicing and maintenance of this Bay Window, overseeing the installation of its prominent mechanical enhancements. The sale of this vehicle will include over £1,700 worth of additional camping equipment, significantly enhancing its value proposition as a ready to go Volkswagen camper van.
The interior of this Dormobile camper van has been revised from its original conversion, with bespoke kitchen and overhead cupboards, cabin headlining and all panelling, with all upholstery finishings in fudge coloured vinyl and plaid cloth.
The kitchen furniture is outfitted with a built-in fridge and a gas hob, complete with a glass cover. Additionally, with the original Dormobile pop-top roof open, ample standing space is provided within the interior.
The front driver and passenger seats are Porsche’s 911 high-back models, providing exceptional comfort and support. Accommodating up to two passengers, the full-width rear rock ‘n’ roll bench seats two passengers securely with the two seat belts provided. Upon request, a third seat belt can be installed to accommodate an additional securely seated passenger. At night, the bed sleeps up to two individuals comfortably.
As for the electronics, this Bay Windows features a WAECO CR-0050 in-built fridge, Sony CDX -DAB700U Radio/CD player system, leisure battery and cabling, electric hook-up with cabling, NUMAX “connect and forget” in-line battery charger and cabling and reading lamps.
Now transitioning to the engine and mechanical components, which have undergone substantial investment over the years. The engine is a hand-built 2,110cc turn-key air-cooled “Beetle” type engine with Engle 110 camshaft, 1.1 rockers, CB performance pushrods and Weber ICT Carburettors. This entire assembly was installed in May 2016 and paired with the Rancho Performance gearbox and a CSP short throw shifter, which had been installed the previous year.
Additionally, an external oil cooler is installed beneath the vehicle to assist in maintaining oil temperatures, given the enhanced performance of this Bay Windows’s engine compared to conventional setups.
The sale of the vehicle comes with a folder containing a wealth of service and maintenance documentation spanning numerous years.
***Over £1,700 of extras included with the sale:
Directing your attention to the exterior, the bodywork displays noticeable indications of faded paint which can be restored through machine polishing. There are areas of the exterior showing rust bubbling underneath the paintwork. Additionally, there are signs of rust evident on the front wheel arches and sections on the offside that will require metal work to complete a solid body. These conditions have been factored into the pricing of the vehicle as part of a comprehensive package.
