We’re pleased to present this 1971 Volkswagen Type 2 Bay Window tin top bus.  

This vehicle holds a familiar presence at Absolute VW, as its previous owner is one of our dedicated loyal customers and has given us the opportunity to maintain their pride and joy for many years.  No expense has been spared with the upkeep of this iconic classic Volkswagen.

Beginning with the interior, which has undergone a comprehensive refurbishment.  All seats and cushions are finished in a factory finished basketweave vinyl.  The front footwell features black carpeting, while the rear boasts a chequered floor.  The vehicle’s furniture includes a two-way fridge, a double gas hob, a sink, 13-amp plug sockets, Alpine RDS MP3 CD Receiver, front and rear built-in speakers, and ample storage cupboards.  The rear bench converts into a ‘rock n roll’ bed, making this Bay Window ideal for weekend getaways.

The exterior has seen extensive restoration during its time including a full respray in white over Sierra yellow.  It is moderately lowered on a set of chrome Porsche Mahle Gas Burner wheels. The bodywork and underside are rock solid, showing no signs of rot. There are no indications of damage, except for some minor stone chips on the front panel, which is typical for vehicles of this type.

Now transitioning to the engine and mechanical components.  In 2015 we at Absolute VW installed a hand built Rawspeed 2,110cc turn-key engine with an external oil cooler with stainless steel oil lines beneath the vehicle to assist in maintaining oil temperatures, given the enhanced performance of this Bay Windows’s engine compared to conventional setups.  It also features a reconditioned steering box. Furthermore, for those prioritising safety, this Bay Window is equipped with a fuel safety shut-off solenoid and features a fire extinguisher system integrated into the engine bay.  Mechanically this Bay Window asks for nothing and has all the documentation to show for its superb service history.
