Presenting a truly charming classic – a late-production Volkswagen T2 Bay Window featuring the sought-after fuel-injected Type 4 engine and factory built Westfalia Champagne edition. This is your opportunity to experience a distinctive camper that stands apart in all the right ways.
This Volkswagen Type 2 was produced in March 1978 as a late Bay Window model built for the USA market and shipped to San Francisco. Although its interior has been modernised and it has previously undergone a full body respray, its M-codes reveal a well-equipped specification, including Westfalia camping features and the Champagne Edition II sales package.
Focusing on the interior camping equipment, the Westfalia furnishings have been updated with modern replacements, adding practical amenities such as a PMS 3H power management system, Webasto petrol heater, 2-way fridge/freezer, twin gas hobs, a sink with a cold water tap, LED interior lighting, and 3-pin 240v plug sockets. Ample storage is provided throughout the cupboards, keeping belongings secure during travel.
All seats, including the rear 3/4 rock-and-roll bed, door cards, and kick panel, have been reupholstered in matching two-tone vinyl, and all four seats are fitted with seatbelts. Up top, the Westfalia pop-top features a mattress and a canopy with three window openings.
For the eagle-eyed viewers, you’ll notice the dashboard, steering wheel, and rear-view mirror plastics are finished in brown rather than the traditional black. These are original features from the Champagne Edition, a special variant offered only for a few months in early 1978. The cabin remains largely original, with a few additions including an EMPI gear lever and a Sony radio/CD/MP3 player paired with twin speakers in the kick panel.
Power is supplied by a newly fitted leisure battery, which can be charged via 240V mains hook-up or through split charging while the engine is running. Gas is provided by the original LPG tank.
Beneath the body lies a solid chassis, with subtle age-related marks around the body, all of which have been reflected in the competitive price. Please refer to the detailed image gallery and walkaround video for a clear representation of its condition.
This camper stands out as a fantastic opportunity to own a well-equipped late-bay Volkswagen Type 2 with updated practicality and unmistakable classic charm making it perfectly suited for both leisurely adventures and everyday enjoyment.
