Here we present a superb example of a 1963 Volkswagen Type 3 Notchback, a vehicle that may be well-known to enthusiasts within the Volkswagen community over the past decade.

This Notchback has undergone an extensive restoration with no expense spared, earning recognition through numerous awards at shows and featuring prominently in a six-page article in the October 2015 issue of VolksWorld Magazine (a copy of which is included with the sale of the car).

The Notchback is a 1963 right-hand drive South African import. It is currently registered under a 1966 plate, reflecting the year it was imported to the UK.

Starting with the exterior, the bodywork has undergone a complete bare metal restoration followed by a respray in Volkswagen’s original L456 Ruby Red paint.  A documented photo album detailing the vehicle’s restoration process has been maintained and been kept with the car since. 

Moving to the interior, it features a fully original Notchback design. A donor car was acquired to ensure the completion of this Notchback’s interior. All seats are finished in basketweave vinyl and are equipped with seat belts, complemented by fresh carpeting throughout.

Now directing your attention to the chassis, this Notchback is equipped with an Airkewld 2-way air ride kit, controlled by individual switches for the front and rear, with a pressure gauge mounted on the dashboard. Additionally, it features a Type 1 front narrow beam and Transporterhaus adjustable spring plates. Consequently, this Notchback rides and sits well on its 15” American Eagle 5-spoke wheels.

The engine has been upgraded from a Type 3 1,500cc to a 1,641cc engine, equipped with twin Dellorto carburettors and a CSP Python exhaust system.
